## Start with clean, dry handling

The gold is protected between polymer layers, so a standard Goldback is designed to be more practical than exposed leaf. Even so, dirt, skin oils, grit, and repeated abrasion can affect the printed surface and edges.

Handle the note with clean, dry hands and support it rather than pinching or flexing one corner. Cotton gloves are optional; clean hands often give better control. If gloves reduce dexterity, they can create more risk than they remove.

## Store flat and stable

Choose an archival-quality, unplasticized sleeve or enclosure sized so the note does not slide around. Store it flat, away from direct sunlight, high heat, damp areas, and large swings in temperature or humidity.

Avoid tape, adhesives, household laminators, pressure clips, and cleaning chemicals. A surface mark should not be polished or scraped away; aggressive cleaning can cause permanent damage.

## Document what you have

Keep a purchase record and a photograph of the note and its serial for your own inventory. When buying, compare the physical security features and source rather than relying only on an online image.

If a manufacturer defect is suspected, consult Goldback’s current support guidance before changing or cleaning the object.
