# What one Goldback is worth

A transparent guide to the published per-Goldback reference rate and what that number does not promise.

## One published rate, one simple multiplication

The United Precious Metals Association publishes an official per-Goldback reference rate. This site reads the current value and effective date directly from UPMA’s public rates endpoint and refreshes its cached server response every thirty minutes.

Because the Washington, D.C. issue has a denomination of one, its reference calculation is direct: the published per-Goldback rate multiplied by one. The calculator becomes useful when you want to evaluate a quantity of notes.

## Reference value is not melt value

A Goldback’s published reference value is not a spot-gold melt calculation. The finished product includes precisely measured fractional gold, manufacturing, protective polymer, security features, distribution, and exchange dynamics.

For that reason, comparing only the contained gold to a bulk bullion quote answers a different question. The published rate is intended as a practical exchange reference for a Goldback unit.

## Reference value is not a checkout promise

Independent distributors set their own retail prices and terms. Taxes, payment method, shipping, condition, grading, and availability can all change a checkout total. This site does not create an offer and does not represent the published rate as a guaranteed merchant price.

Use the live figure as a shared reference, then verify the actual seller price before purchasing or the agreed value before a voluntary exchange.
